FAQ’s:

What are the age restrictions for Everest Base Camp Trek?
There is no strict age limit, but due to the trek’s physical demands, it’s generally recommended for individuals aged 16-70. However, with good health and fitness, older trekkers can complete the trek successfully.

Is EBC suitable for beginners?
Mount Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light rucksack. On some days we might even need to walk for 7 to 8 hours. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if you are in excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, you can accomplish the trek successfully. If you are not in good shape, you can prepare for the trek a few months before your departure date.

How do I physically prepare?
Exercising and jogging regularly is a good idea to enhance your strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform me before booking the trek. I will be helping you with a training schedule to prepare you for the trek.

How to get a visa for Nepal?
Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. For an on-arrival visa, you need a passport with at least 6 months of validity, a passport-size photo, and a visa application fee. The application fee depends on the length of stay. The current cost is USD 50 for 30 day stay. Please visit https://www.immigration.gov.np/en for details.

Where do we sleep each night?
We will stay in Kathmandu for 2 nights, prior and at the end. This will be in a 4 start hotel. During the trek, we will stay in tea lodges. We have selected some of the best tea lodges for this trek to ensure you are given the best opportunity to succeed.

What meals will be provided?
During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. You could bring some chocolates and bars as well for an extra diet while trekking. There are a variety of vegetarian and halal options available on the trek.

How do I know what to pack and bring?
I will supply a full packing list ahead of time and help you prepare both in terms of packing as well as training. If you don’t have all the required gear, there are options to rent at very low cost.

Is Wi-Fi available during the trek?
Wi-Fi is available in most teahouses/lodges, but you need to pay an extra fee to use it.

Does the Everest Base Camp have toilets?
Yes, basic toilet facilities are available, but hygiene standards can be low.

Should I take Diamox to the Base Camp?
Diamox is often used to prevent altitude sickness. However, please consult your doctor about the use.

Do I need to bring medicines for Everest Base Camp Trek?
We recommend you pack a first aid kit with essentials like pain relievers, anti-diarrhea medication, and rehydration salts. Consult your doctor for specific needs. Our guides also carry a first aid kit.

Island Peak Summit (optional add on to EBC Trek)

May 2024
Himalayas, Nepal
Group size: 1 – 10
Trip Grade: Moderate – Strenuous (beginner mountaineering level)
Duration: 3 days
Altitude: 6189m | 20300 ft
Cost: $1000

Want to try climbing your first Himalaya mountain at altitude – then this is for you!

Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is a famous climbing peak beautifully located on the top of the Chukung Glacier between Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. It stands 6,189m/20,305 ft tall, is one of the easiest and most affordable peaks to climb, and provides you with a high-altitude climbing experience. Island Peak is a good option for those that have never climbed a mountain, and want to experience the world of mountain climbing.

During this climb, you will experience stunning views of the world’s highest mountains – Everest (8848m/29021 ft), Mt Nuptse (7,879m), Mt Lhotse (8,501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m), Lhotse Shar (8,383m), Mt Makalu (8,475m) and Cho Polu (6,734m), Mt Baruntse (7,720m), and the majestic Ama Dablam (6,856m).

Island Peak Mountain extends the southern ridge of Lhotse Shar, separated by a small col, and appears to look like an island in the sea of ice. Hence, Eric Shipton from the 1953 Mount Everest expedition named it Island Peak.

Climbing this peak is physically demanding but not challenging, making it perfect for novice climbers.

For climbing Island Peak, you need to have a high level of physical fitness and a moderate level of technical climbing knowledge. During the trip, we will help you develop your mountaineering skills, and by the end of the Island Peak Climb, you will gain enough climbing skills to overcome the Island Peak difficulty.
